About the Artist:
Gholam Hossein Banan, son of Karim Banan ol-Molk, was born in May of 1911. Raised in a family of artists and performers, his father was a calligrapher and an avid musician, while his mother was an enthused piano player. His sisters played the Tar, and were taught by the acclaimed Morteza Ney Davood.
Banan's early exposure to music allowed him many opportunities to experiment and express his talents. Ney Davood quickly learned of Banan's exceptional abilities and encouraged him to become a vocalist. At 12 years of age, Banan went to Mirza Taher Ziad-al-Zakerin, a well-recognized vocal instructor and finally Nasser Seif, to begin further improving his singing talents. He was then finally introduced to the famous Ruhollah Khaleghi by Ali Naghi Vaziri.
In 1942 Banan was featured on the Iranian National Radio and joined the prestigious Iranian National Music Association. Through Khaleghi's insistence, Banan was labeled "Master Vocalist," which lead to a sudden rise in Banan's promising singing career.
Banan was then invited to join Javad Maroufi's orchestra; Maroufi was an acclaimed pianist, famous for his musical abilities as well. Banan sang the most challenging Persian musical arrangements as the lead vocalist in Maroufi's orchestra.
Banan's warm and harmonious voice was loved by all and has eternally secured a place in the hearts of millions of devoted fans. His voice shall always conjure sweet memories of a distant past, immortalized by a voice familiar to all.
Banan's life, which was filled with countless accomplishments, came to an end in 1985. He shall never be forgotten.
